Observed all over the world, March 19th, 2019 is National Let’s Laugh Day.
Studies show that there are a lot of health benefits to laughing including: burning calories, boosting the immune system, relieving tension, lowering blood pressure, and the release of endorphins. And, guess what? Laughing is good for the heart. So allow yourself to laugh straight from the belly.
According to Deccanchronicle.com, the first celebration of Let’s Laugh Day started in 1998 in Mumbai, India, and was arranged by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement.
“Dr. Kataria, a family doctor in India, was inspired to start the Laughter Yoga movement in part by the facial feedback hypothesis, which postulates that a person’s facial expressions can have an effect on their emotions.”
Laughter yoga is meant to engage the abdominal muscles, lungs, arms and facial muscles.
According to the site, the goal of World Laughter Day is meant to be a “positive manifestation for world peace, and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter while using humor to get us laughing to cure what ails us.”
So laugh more today and everyday, especially on March 19th in honor of Let’s Laugh Day.
