According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death per year in both men and women. According to CNN Health, warding off heart disease could be as simple as eating these three heart healthy foods, or avoiding other foods.

  1. Nuts: Tree nuts are not only filled with protein, but their unsaturated fats can help lower LDLs— bad cholesterol.
  2. Beans: New studies show that eating beans regularly can greatly lower the risk for heart disease.
  3. Chocolate: The main ingredient in chocolate is cocoa, which is filled with flavonoids (promotes circulation) antioxidants and magnesium— an essential mineral for heart health).
